In close coordination and cooperation between Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz, Officer in Charge of Construction Marine Corps Marianas, the Guam State Historic Preservation Office, Granite Obayashi Joint Venture and Kleinfelder completed a monument honoring ancestral burials found at Sabånan Fadang during the construction of MCB Camp Blaz.

Kleinfelder’s Pacific capabilities extend well beyond planning and compliance. Combined with our geotechnical and CoMET experience, this capability provides contractors and agencies with reliable field support throughout construction, helping keep projects on schedule and meeting mission requirements.

Archaeological Monitoring for Hawai’i Wildfire Response Debris Removal Support

Kleinfelder provided archaeological support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in the archaeological monitoring of Private Property Debris Removal (PPDR) as a component of the Consolidated Debris Removal Program (CDRP) in the historic district of Lāhainā, Town and the surrounding areas. The project was initiated as a National Historic Preservation Act Section 106 Undertaking following the 2023 Maui wildfires.

Archaeology Data Recovery in Support of Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz

Kleinfelder provided archaeological services across a 561-acre project site, including construction monitoring, reconnaissance survey, subsurface testing, emergency data recovery, mitigation of human skeletal remains (HSR), extensive laboratory analysis and curation of archaeological materials, ethnographic studies, and long-term coordination with Department of Defense (DoD) stakeholders and federal compliance requirements. Fieldwork was conducted continuously for more than four years. Since 2019, Kleinfelder received 15 modifications to the initial contract to accommodate additional work requested.

Cultural Resources Survey for Yap Airport Improvements EIS

Kleinfelder provided a cultural resources survey to identify potential environmental impacts associated with development of facilities and infrastructure to support cargo, aircraft, and support personnel at Yap International Airport, FSM. Kleinfelder’s work included ground-truthing of previously recorded archaeological sites, identifying and recording historic resources within the project area, directing archaeological field personnel in site recordation, and maintaining quality control of GPS data.
