SkillBridge Program

Service men and women have considerable technical and leadership experience and they are very trainable – qualities that are greatly valued in the engineering and construction industry and are the foundation for developing high-performing employees.
Understanding the value veterans could bring to the firm, Kleinfelder has established a high-quality military candidate pipeline to fill open positions faster; particularly positions in construction management, materials testing, and inspection; as many military personnel have experience building or repairing airfields, bridges, and other structures. Working through the Department of Defense (DoD), Kleinfelder became a SkillBridge industry partner, gaining early access to service members through internships during their last 180 days of active duty.
“The general public views veterans as heroes, but they’re more than just heroes; they’re a skilled and talented workforce that is prepared to make significant contributions in the civilian world given the opportunity,” said Laura Hartman, Senior Human Resources Manager and SkillBridge Liaison at Kleinfelder.

Testimonials

Regardless of time served, SkillBridge gives the service member the necessary experience and tools to become a successful contributor to the civilian workforce. My supervisor and coworkers have been instrumental in teaching me the ways of corporate life and I’ve used my skills learned in the military to properly nestle within Kleinfelder.

United States Marine Corps

My first interaction with Kleinfelder was great and it gave me a sense of being part of a team, which is something that I had for 20 years of my Air Force career. I recommend that any service member who is one year out from retirement or separation give SkillBridge a chance – it won’t be regretted.

The DoD SkillBridge program is an invaluable opportunity for transitioning service members. I feel incredibly fortunate that Kleinfelder participates in this program, as it not only supports our veterans, but also strengthens our team with the dedication and discipline they bring.

United States Navy

SkillBridge is a phenomenal program that allows for a much easier transition from active-duty service. It enables you to take the time to learn, so that upon the program’s completion, you have developed a strong foundation in your new line of work before starting as a full-time employee.
PJ, Kleinfelder Civil Engineering Project Professional
United States Marine Corps

Skillbridge is a fantastic program that helps ease the transition from military to civilian life. Military roles don’t always have a direct counterpart in the civilian sector, but SkillBridge allows participants to test the waters and demonstrate their value. It’s a win-win – service members gain experience and exposure, while companies get the chance to bring on disciplined, skilled individuals ready to contribute.

Our Construction Materials Engineering and Testing service line has benefited greatly from the leadership our SkillBridge interns have brought to the team. It’s been an honor to work alongside these dedicated individuals and watch them learn a new skillset while transitioning into the civilian world.

I was thrilled to have a candidate from SkillBridge presented to me. SkillBridge hires bring an action-focused work ethic that meshes well in the IT environment. We hired our SkillBridge intern to a full-time position and he is a valued member of our busy team. His skills developed through many years in the military are complimentary to our needs, and he impresses me with his commitment and capabilities.
