Kleinfelder in Process for Selection and Negotiation of Upcoming Projects
Water Treatment Plant Residual Redirection Project at the Miramar Water Treatment Plant, City of San Diego
The project, a key component of the City’s Pure Water Program, will introduce a new process to manage residuals at the treatment plant by diverting waste to the sewer and returning treated filter backwash to the plant headworks for reuse, promoting sustainability and resource efficiency. This project will kick off Winter 2024.
Pump Station 1 Modernization and Improvements, City of San Diego Public Utilities Department
Pump Station 1 (PS1) is one of the largest and most critical pump stations within the City of San Diego’s wastewater collection system. Wastewater from the South Bay region is delivered to PS1 via the South Metro Interceptor, and discharges at an average of 75 million gallons per day. Kleinfelder was selected to make improvements to the facility under a design-build contract, which kicks off Fall 2024.
As-Needed Water and Wastewater Engineering Services, City of San Diego
Selected for the fourth consecutive contract cycle, Kleinfelder is proud to serve the City of San Diego through this as-needed, five-year contract. The contract encompasses a wide range of Kleinfelder’s areas of expertise, including water, wastewater, reservoirs, reclaimed water, pure water, groundwater, stormwater studies, condition assessments, strategic planning, and design solutions for treatment processes and hydraulics.
Sewer Infrastructure Rehabilitation Design Engineering Services, City of San Diego
Kleinfelder was selected to support San Diego in increasing the remaining useful life and improving the overall condition of key trunk sewers. This work will involve rehabilitation, liner repair, and spot repairs to pipelines and structures, including those in sections as deep as 110 feet beneath the streets of downtown San Diego. Work is set to start Winter 2024.

Recent Projects
R.E. Badger Water Filtration Plant Improvements
Plant improvements resulted in a new solids dewatering process, building, and sludge storage tank; retrofitted the 1 MG, 90-foot-tall filter washwater tank and 13 MG clearwell; and completed concrete refurbishment and safety upgrades at the San Dieguito Dam.
City of San Diego Lead Service Line Inventory Services
Kleinfelder conducted field investigations and prepared an initial lead service line inventory of service line materials on the customer (private) side of the water meter, including all building types with a drinking water service for the City of San Diego, California.
Miramar Clearwell Improvements and Facility Replacement
The Miramar Clearwell Improvements project is a $120 million capital improvement project for the City of San Diego that essentially replaces the original 1959 facility, including replacing two aging, finished water storage reservoirs.

Sr. Water/ Wastewater Project Manager

This position will support our growing water and wastewater market in Southern California. Water/ Wastewater Project Manager
San Diego
We are seeking a Water/Wastewater Project Manager with 6+ years of experience in San Diego office. Candidates must be interested in working in the municipal drinking water and wastewater engineering field. To qualify as a candidate, you must possess at least a B.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field. Candidates with an M.S. in the above disciplines, and experience in municipal water and wastewater infrastructure are preferred, but all motivated individuals are encouraged to apply. A Professional Engineering Liscense is preferred for this position.
