Janna Bonfiglio Recognized as a Leader of Influence in Engineering

SAN DIEGO, California (March 17, 2025) – Kleinfelder is proud to announce that Principal Geotechnical Engineer and San Diego Geotechnical Engineering Group Manager Janna Bonfiglio has been selected as an honoree for the San Diego Business Journal’s 2025 Leaders of Influence in Engineering. This recognition highlights her leadership, technical expertise, and significant contributions to San Diego’s infrastructure and seismic resiliency.

The Leaders of Influence in Engineering program celebrates professionals who have made exceptional impacts in their field, helping shape the region’s infrastructure while mentoring the next generation of engineers.

Throughout her career, Janna has strengthened San Diego’s critical infrastructure through her expertise in geotechnical and earthquake engineering. Her contributions include major projects like the San Diego International Airport Terminal 1 Replacement, the Mid-Coast Corridor Trolley extension, and seismic assessments of crucial dams and pipelines. Her work evaluating and mitigating seismic vulnerabilities helps protect essential infrastructure that millions of residents depend on daily.

Beyond her project work, Janna serves as President of the San Diego Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) Chapter, where she bridges connections between engineers, researchers, and policymakers to enhance earthquake preparedness and resilience across the region.

Her commitment to developing future engineers is evident in her active mentorship of junior professionals both within Kleinfelder and throughout the industry. She provides hands-on guidance for complex geotechnical challenges and career development, helping build expertise in seismic design and infrastructure resilience.

Janna’s impact on San Diego’s water infrastructure is particularly notable. Her assessments of seismic vulnerabilities in major pipelines and dams are instrumental in maintaining a stable water supply for residents, businesses, and emergency services.

“Janna’s leadership, technical acumen, and commitment to infrastructure resiliency make her a deserving honoree,” said Robert Torres, Kleinfelder Senior Program Manager and Southern California Geotechnical Service Line Lead. “Her work strengthens San Diego’s critical infrastructure, and her mentorship helps shape the future of our industry. We are proud to see her receive this well-earned recognition.”

This marks the second consecutive year Janna has been honored by the San Diego Business Journal, having been named a 2024 Woman of Influence in Engineering.
