Kleinfelder Stockton Laboratory Remodel: Enhancing Efficiency, Safety, and Capability

The remodel of Kleinfelder’s Stockton laboratory introduces a range of upgrades to enhance efficiency, safety, and testing capabilities, positioning the lab to continue delivering high-quality, responsive service to clients in an increasingly competitive industry.

Advanced Technologies and Testing Capabilities

A key enhancement is the adoption of ForneyVault, a compressive strength data management system with barcode specimen labeling, which streamlines concrete receiving and testing workflows, reduces manual entry, and enables real-time data tracking. A new concrete cure room is equipped with a fogging humidifier, which offers a more water-efficient alternative to traditional misting systems. The remodel also enhances the lab’s geotechnical testing capabilities, adding equipment for triaxial compression and hydraulic conductivity testing to support geotechnical design projects in Stockton and nearby regions.

Improved Safety Features

The remodel also emphasizes safety. New dust- and sound-protecting rooms reduce noise and dust exposure, creating a quieter and cleaner work environment.  Additional safety upgrades include the relocated nuclear gauge storage room with safety cages, a new masonry saw to accommodate larger specimens, non-slip flooring in the cure room, lift carts, and a back entrance ramp, all helping to improve material handling and employee safety.

Streamlined Operations for Increased Efficiency

These operational upgrades streamline daily workflows and reduce repetitive tasks, allowing staff to focus on core responsibilities. Additional workstations facilitate real-time data entry for large projects, reducing paperwork, cutting down on error-prone data re-entry, and allowing faster test turnaround. These changes not only save time but also minimize errors, ensuring quality and efficiency for clients.

Positive Feedback and Acknowledgement

Staff feedback on the remodeled lab has been very positive. Employees appreciate having dedicated workspaces with the necessary tools readily accessible to support their daily tasks.

Aaron Kidd, Area Laboratory Services Operations Lead, commended Adam Wohletz, Stockton Lab Supervisor, and his team members, Damani Lowe and Marlene Juarez, for their hard work and commitment to a safe and successful remodel, stating, “During the entire process, Adam worked with the contractor and various subs to keep the remodel on schedule. He prioritized safety, pointing out any hazards he noticed and communicating regularly with the contractor. Adam, Marlene, and Damani put in numerous hours of hard physical work to prepare the space for construction. Their efforts were invaluable to the success of the remodel.”
