James Fillis Joins Kleinfelder to Lead Seattle Area Operations

SEATTLE, Washington – James Fillis, PE, has joined Kleinfelder–a leading engineering, construction management, design, and environmental professional services firm–as the Seattle Area Manager. Fillis will provide overall leadership to ensure Kleinfelder’s Seattle operations continue to grow and compete successfully in the Pacific Northwest marketplace.

“Joining Kleinfelder’s Seattle Area Operation is a great professional opportunity to work with a well-established business with excellent potential for growth.  I look forward to working with the team in serving our existing clients at the highest level and promoting our capabilities in new areas,” commented Fillis.

With over 30 years of experience, Fillis has a broad background in design and construction management through his work on a variety of civil, transit, bridge, power, and utility projects. His ability to manage complex projects and optimize operations to meet schedule milestones, improve budget performance, and ensure safety has been demonstrated through large, noteworthy construction projects such as Sound Transit’s $730 million Downtown Redmond Light Rail Link Extension; the $116 million Seattle Central Library; and several multi-million dollar expansion and development projects at SeaTac International Airport. Having worked as a Senior Project Manager at Puget Sound Energy, Fillis has also provided design management and construction oversight for several significant energy projects, including the $200 million Snoqualmie Falls Hydroelectric Rehabilitation project and the $50 million Upper Baker Floating Surface Collector project.

As an Operations Manager, Fillis has led a team of over 250 staff to achieve improved financial performance through growth of sales and revenue.  He remains actively involved with project teams and clients, facilitating successful project staffing, quality plans, contract terms, and budgets.  Leveraging his experience as a contractor’s project manager and superintendent, a consultant resident engineer, and an owner’s cradle-to-grave project manager, he supports development of well-rounded technical teams capable of meeting multifaceted delivery requirements at any project phase.

“I’m very excited to have Jim join our West Division’s leadership team,” said Kleinfelder West Division Director Victor Auvinen.  “Jim’s strong technical and leadership experience is ideal for maximizing the talent and skillset of our Seattle team to ensure exceptional delivery of client services and provide a challenging and rewarding work environment for our staff.”

Fillis is licensed as a Professional Engineer in Washington. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a construction management focus from Washington State University.
