Kleinfelder’s Los Angeles Area’s Commitment to Their Local Community Shined Bright this Month as They Hosted and Participated in Several Events Honoring Our First Responders and the Memory of 9/11.

RIVERSIDE, California – Kleinfelder’s Los Angeles Area (LA Area) offices recently spent a week in September honoring our first responders and the memory of 9/11 by performing various service related activities in their community.  These events included a street clean up and smoke alarm installations, all held in advance of September 11th.

On Monday, September 10th, Kleinfelder’s LA Area held a fundraising luncheon at the Riverside office to kick off the citywide events, hosted by the City of Riverside, scheduled for Tuesday, 9/11.  The luncheon hosted local city government officials, representatives from State Senator Roth and State Assembly member Cervantes offices, the Chief of Police, the Riverside Fire Chief, the Commander of the Robert Presley Detention Center, the Government Affairs Director for AMR, firefighters from Downtown Riverside Fire Station 1, and other partners who were teamed up with Kleinfelder as a part of the Riverside 9/11 Day of Service Organizing Committee.  Approximately $1,000 was raised and divided equally between the Riverside Police Foundation, the Riverside Firefighters Memorial Foundation, and the Inland Empire Fire and Burn Foundation.

On Tuesday, September 11th, Kleinfelder employees joined other citizens of Riverside for a moving opening ceremony at a local university led by the Mayor of Riverside, Rusty Bailey.  Opening remarks began at 9:11 AM and were followed by a moving speech delivered by a retired Deputy Fire Chief who mobilized to the World Trade Center with Riverside’s Task Force 6 to aid with the recovery efforts.

After the opening ceremony concluded, volunteers were dispatched throughout the city to deliver lunch to every first responder on duty.  Approximately 100 volunteers worked together to prepare, pick up and deliver meals to over 820 first responders.  This group included local businesses and professionals, a local high school culinary program, city government officials, a local branch of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), a local church, several local restaurants, and volunteers from Meals on Wheels.  Kleinfelder volunteers and members of their families were on teams that delivered lunch to a fire station, a police station (where the Chief of Police sits), to the Robert Presley Detention Center where 150 Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputies and personnel were served, and to AMR where 140 paramedics and personnel were served.  Several of the personnel at AMR were deploying to the east coast for Hurricane Florence so our volunteers quickly packed them meals to take on the plane!

The day ended with a moving closing ceremony held as part of the Riverside City Council Meeting.  Kleinfelder was recognized for its leadership in bringing this event to the city and for being a great place to work!
