APWA Young Engineer Award

SAN DIEGO, California – Craig Shannon, Kleinfelder’s principal bridge engineer and project manager, has received the American Public Works Association’s San Diego/Imperial Chapters (APWA) 2015 APWA Young Leader Award. Shannon received the award during the APWA Annual Awards Luncheon, held on May 7, 2015 at the Hilton Mission Valley.

The APWA Young Leader Award is given to an individual 35 years or younger who has contributed to the public works profession through innovation and advocacy while demonstrating an ongoing commitment to the organization.  APWA is an international organization with nearly 30,000 professionals dedicated to supporting the people, agencies, and organizations that plan, maintain, and improve our communities.

Shannon, who has been a member of Kleinfelder’s Bridge Engineering and Design Service Line since 2000, and has over 15-years of experience in the design, rehabilitation and construction inspection of bridges and other structures.  As a key member of the group, he has worked on many significant projects including the award-wining North Torrey Pines Road Bridge Seismic Retrofit and Rehabilitation in Del Mar, California and the retrofit and rehabilitation of the 101-year old Georgia Street Bridge in San Diego, California.

Kleinfelder’s Bridge Engineering and Design Service Line provides expert bridge engineering services across the United States. The company’s bridge group has been growing since 2009, when Kleinfelder acquired S E A Consultants, a full-service engineering, architecture and planning firm headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 2012, Kleinfelder acquired Simon Wong Engineering, a San Diego-based firm providing project management, structural and bridge engineering services, and construction management services. Since then, the company has hired four professionals specializing in bridge engineering, accelerated bridge construction, structural health monitoring and civil design, and bridge researcher Sami Megally, one of the foremost experts in analysis and design of reinforced and prestressed concrete, cable stay, and suspension structures.

Shannon is based in the company’s global headquarters in San Diego, California. He is a Professional Engineer (PE) in California.
