Kleinfelder Secures Bridge Expert Sam Abraham

DENVER, Colorado – Bridge engineer Samuel (Sam) Abraham has been named principal professional at Kleinfelder, a global engineering, architecture and science consulting firm.

In his new position, Abraham will provide technical and program management support on various bridge retrofitting and rehabilitation projects, with an emphasis on structural and geotechnical engineering, design, and construction management. He is based out of the company’s Denver, Colorado office.

“By bringing Sam onboard, we have solidified Kleinfelder’s position as one of the strongest bridge engineering and design groups in the United States,” says Mark Creveling, vice president of project management. “His expertise in bridge retrofit, replacement and repair will be invaluable as we grow our bridge group to assist in the rehabilitation efforts of the Nation’s aging infrastructure.”

Abraham joins Kleinfelder’s Bridge Engineering and Design Service Line, which provides expert bridge engineering services across the United States, including on projects such as the award-winning Bridge in a Backpack in Maine and the North Torrey Pines Road Bridge Seismic Retrofit and Rehabilitation in Del Mar, California. The company’s bridge group has been growing since 2009, when Kleinfelder acquired S E A Consultants, a full-service engineering, architecture and planning firm headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 2012 Kleinfelder acquired Simon Wong Engineering, a San Diego-based firm providing project management, structural and bridge engineering services, and construction management services. Since then, the company has hired four professionals specializing in bridge engineering, accelerated bridge construction, structural health monitoring and civil design, as well as bridge researcher Sami Megally, one of the foremost experts in analysis and design of reinforced and prestressed concrete, cable stay, and suspension structures.

Abraham has nearly 20-years of structural and transportation engineering experience. Prior to joining Kleinfelder, he was the senior bridge engineer at AECOM, where he led design-bid-build transportation projects. Throughout his career, Abraham has also provided project management, project delivery, and seismic and construction engineering support on a variety of bridge projects, including municipal, commuter, and light rail bridges. He holds a MS in structural engineering from Iowa State University and a BS in civil engineering from Madurai Kamaraj University in Madurai, India.
