Kleinfelder’s solar team is working with a confidential client to provide preliminary engineering for a 300 MW utility scale solar project in Ohio. Beyond the inherent sustainability aspects of solar projects, which include replacing carbon-based power generation sources, this project includes two unique sustainability initiatives that are steadily gaining traction in the market.
Utility scale projects can span areas as large as 2000-acres. This focused attention on revegetation substantially enhances the biome around the project and helps restore the carbon storage capacity within the project footprint during the 35–40-year lifecycle of the project. Kleinfelder’s specific role in these sustainability initiatives involves working with the specialty consultants on the soil characteristics and testing, as well as integration of specifications and other engineering features to ensure these initiatives are properly framed for implementation by the EPC contractors as the project is constructed.
