Supporting Key Milestones at the Sacramento International Airport

Advancing the SMForward Program

Kleinfelder is supporting the $1.4 billion SMForward Modernization Program at Sacramento International Airport, one of the largest airport infrastructure efforts in Northern California. As part of the Construction Manager and Inspection Services Team, Kleinfelder is providing special inspection services, contractor quality control plan reviews, and quality assurance oversight on behalf of the client.

The team is currently engaged on two major construction projects: the new Terminal B Pedestrian Walkway and the Terminal B Parking Structure.

Recent Progress on Active Projects

The Terminal B Pedestrian Walkway recently reached a major milestone with a ribbon cutting and is nearing completion. The ADA-compliant skybridge connects Terminal B to Concourse B and includes moving sidewalks, escalators, and elevators to improve passenger access.

Construction of the six-level Terminal B Parking Structure is approximately 80 percent complete. Once finished, the structure will add more than 5,500 parking spaces along with electric vehicle charging, parking guidance systems, and reservation capabilities. The project also supports roadway and landside improvements aimed at reducing congestion and improving traffic flow.

Delivering Value Through Complex Construction

Kleinfelder’s role requires coordination across complex construction activities and tight schedules.

For the pedestrian walkway, the team supported a large structural steel effort with fabrication occurring across multiple states, requiring careful inspection coordination.

On the parking structure, the team is working within an accelerated schedule that condensed an 18-month timeline into 12 months, requiring continuous inspection coverage to support daily construction activities.

“Both projects required our team to manage complex construction conditions while keeping pace with demanding schedules. From coordinating multi-state structural steel fabrication on the pedestrian walkway to maintaining continuous inspection coverage on an accelerated parking structure timeline, our team has been focused on delivering consistent quality and support to the client.”
