RALEIGH, North Carolina—Mark Koegel has been awarded 2017 Young Engineer of the Year by the North Carolina Section of ASCE!
Mark, a design engineer who sits in Kleinfelder’s Raleigh office, serves as an assistant project manager and task lead for the Raleigh design center. As a detail oriented engineer who strives to provide quality deliverables, Mark has demonstrated exceptional performance overseeing a team of design professionals, reviewing technical components of civil designs, and corresponding with various stakeholders including clients, partners, and regulatory agencies. Mark was recognized for his willingness to step into leadership roles on projects, even when the circumstances were unfavorable. For example, with some turnover occurring in staff, Mark quickly volunteered to take the lead on a constructability issue within a $100 million project. While his background knowledge of the scope and project history was limited, he exceeded expectations and received commendations from the client. Due to Mark’s work ethic and enthusiasm for providing excellent service, he is often called directly by clients who wish to work with him; they value his quality deliverables and sincerely appreciate the enjoyable manner with which he conducts himself.
In addition to clients’ appreciation for his work, Mark is well respected internally by his Kleinfelder colleagues. The Raleigh design staff look to Mark frequently for guidance and he is respected as a steady and calm hand within the team. He supervises staff and provides effective mentorship and career development guidance.
Mark is an active volunteer for Ronald McDonald House Charities, having participated in the planning and hosting of events to serve the local community of Durham. Mark has also been an active member of the ASCE North Carolina Eastern Branch since 2013.
