Five projects, which range from a pedestrian and bicycle bridge to a $110M clearwells improvement project, received the nine awards
May 17, 2021 (SAN DIEGO, California) – Kleinfelder, a leading engineering, design, construction management, and environmental professional services firm, received eleven industry awards recognizing the firm’s contribution to projects that enhance San Diego transportation and water infrastructure. The awarding organizations include the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) California, American Public Works Association (APWA) San Diego and Imperial Counties Chapter, and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) San Diego Chapter.
Five projects, which range from a pedestrian and bicycle bridge to a $110M clearwells improvement project, received the nine awards which recognize excellence in design and management, technical innovation, environmental stewardship, and community impact.
The University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Mesa Housing Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridge received an ACEC Engineering Excellence Honor Award, APWA Project of the Year Award, and ASCE Outstanding Bridge Project Award and Project of the Year Award. Kleinfelder served as the prime design consultant for the bridge, which enhances UCSD campus access and connectivity. The project team was praised for their innovative use of spliced precast concrete girders in the bridge design and extensive analysis of construction sequencing during the design phase which helped overcome challenges related to crossing an environmentally sensitive canyon.



The SANDAG South Bay Bus Rapid Transit (SBBRT) project received APWA’s Project of the Year Award in the Transportation Category and ASCE’s Outstanding Transportation Project Award. Kleinfelder provided construction
