A Machine Learning Application for Site Characterization
Part of Session 03b: Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and the Environment
Advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning have been applied to environmental data in several settings. This presentation will describe the use of a machine learning model to allow rapid evaluation of potential groundwater plume dimensions and provide statistical estimates of plume capture. Use of this tool can help in the evaluation of proposed investigative actions, identifying potential gaps in proposed or ongoing remedial actions, and ultimately improve outcomes.

Differentiating CVOCs in Bedrock and Alternate Remediation Criteria: Rationale and Regulatory Concurrence
Part of Session 05: Contamination, Investigation, and Remediation in Bedrock
Commingled plumes of chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs) in industrialized areas are often complex, and difficult to differentiate, particularly in bedrock. This presentation examines a case study in which CVOCs migrated by advection in groundwater from an industrial drycleaning facility located northeast and along bedrock strike from a petroleum facility to the southwest.
