Kleinfelder Honored With 2023 NEWWA Diversity Award

Kleinfelder was awarded the 2023 New England Water Works Association (NEWWA) Diversity Award at NEWWA’s Annual Conference on September 19, 2023.

BOSTON, Massachusetts (September 22, 2023) – The Kleinfelder Group, Inc. (Kleinfelder), a leading engineering, design, construction management, construction materials inspection and testing, and environmental professional services firm, was awarded the 2023 New England Water Works Association (NEWWA) Diversity Award at NEWWA’s Annual Conference on September 19, 2023. The award recognizes Kleinfelder’s outstanding contributions in advancing diversity and inclusion within the water works profession.

Kleinfelder’s commitment to diversity and inclusion extends across various aspects of its corporate culture and operations. The company believes in the power of diverse perspectives and talents, recognizing that they foster innovation and enhance business performance. To achieve this, Kleinfelder has implemented a range of strategies, including the formation of the Spectrum Committee, an employee-driven committee dedicated to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) initiatives.

With support from Kleinfelder’s leadership team, the Spectrum Committee has cultivated an inclusive and diverse culture through development of DE&I-specific curriculum integrated into staff training, establishment of a supplier/vendor diversity program to promote diversity spending, active partnerships with historically disadvantaged businesses, membership in organizations like the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and BuildOUT California, which champion diversity, and participation in initiatives that encourage the next generation’s interest in STEM fields. Additionally, Kleinfelder’s involvement in the Department of Defense (DoD) SkillBridge Program, offering internships to transitioning service members, showcases the company’s commitment to diversity in recruiting. These initiatives, among many others, have been recognized for creating a more equitable and inclusive culture, both for Kleinfelder employees and for the broader AEC industry.

““We are honored to receive the NEWWA Diversity Award,” said Kleinfelder Senior Project Manager Kirsten Ryan. “Kleinfelder’s investment in diversity and inclusion provides a strong foundation for our employees to grow and thrive in their careers, which ultimately results in our ability to deliver exceptional technical solutions that protect and improve drinking water and water utility operations.”
