Kleinfelder Appoints Dan Harpstead as Director of Risk Mitigation and Rita Fordiani as Technical Director

SAN DIEGO, California – Kleinfelder announced that Dan Harpstead has been named Director of Risk Mitigation and Rita Fordiani has been named Technical Director.

As the Director of Risk Mitigation, Harpstead will oversee the processes and procedures for identification, management, mitigation, and monitoring of projects with elevated risks. Functioning on a company-wide basis, Harpstead will collaborate with program and project managers to mitigate risk related to contractual, technical, and operational performance. He’ll also establish specific training in risk recognition, management, and mitigation for Kleinfelder’s project managers.

“Dan is the ideal candidate to manage and mitigate technical and business risk across the company,” commented Kleinfelder President and CEO Louis Armstrong. “His vast knowledge of Kleinfelder’s technical capabilities coupled with his ability to take both risks and rewards into consideration as part of the decision-making process will help Kleinfelder align risk mitigation with business strategy for our most challenging projects.”

Harpstead has a 30-year tenure with Kleinfelder and has served as the firm’s Technical and Quality Director for the past six years. Noting his excitement to begin working in his new role, Harpstead explained, “it’s a great opportunity to support our project managers and their project teams with the challenges of risk management and mitigation. I look forward to sharing my experience and knowledge around the subject of risk with these teams as well as continuing to facilitate quality.”

With 36 years of civil engineering industry experience and past leadership roles in technology, operations, and market strategy with a consistent focus on clients’ needs, Fordiani is well positioned to take on the role of Kleinfelder’s Technical Director. As Technical Director, Fordiani will work closely with the leadership teams of Kleinfelder’s Technical Network (KTN) to advance the company-wide vision of technical excellence, support growth of technical talent, and achieve profitable market penetration.

“Our technical community is the heart of our business,” Fordiani commented. “Our clients continue to trust us with their projects because they value the innovative and practical solutions our technical experts deliver. Ensuring our commitment to quality while we continue to advance our technical capabilities and maintain connectivity of expertise across the company will be vital to sustaining Kleinfelder’s competitive edge within the industry.”

“Rita’s dedication to our technical community coupled with her understanding of our markets and client needs will help ensure that Kleinfelder continues the long tradition of technical excellence as the company grows,” Armstrong said.
