Kleinfelder Community Service: Bettering the Community with Green Infrastructure

Kleinfelder volunteers recently installed a rain garden at the Common Fence Point Community Center in Portsmouth, RI as part of the inaugural New England Water Environment Association (NEWEA) Young Professional Service Project. The project was the culmination of planning and design efforts by several Kleinfelder staff on NEWEA’s Young Professionals Committee over the last several months to locate potential green infrastructure projects surrounding the Narragansett Bay. With the help of 45+ volunteers, 350+ plants and 0 thunderstorms, the 750 square-foot rain garden was completed and will serve as a green infrastructure model for the neighborhood.

Materials were provided by the East Bay Conservation District, with funding from Rhode Island Green Infrastructure Coalition. The event was sponsored by Kleinfelder, Pare Corporation, Narragansett Water Pollution Control Association (NWPCA), and NEWEA.  The local newspaper, East Bay RI, featured an article about the event.
