Lee Abramson Joins Kleinfelder as Senior Program Manager
PLEASANTON, California—Kleinfelder is pleased to announce that Lee Abramson has joined Kleinfelder’s West Division as a Senior Program Manager. Lee has extensive experience in various aspects of civil engineering with a specialty in soil and rock tunnel engineering in the United States and abroad.
With over 35 years of experience, Lee has served in various leadership and technical capacities on a range of projects involving water resources, wastewater, energy, transit systems, railroads, highways, and other public infrastructure facilities. His direct responsibilities have included all aspects of engineering including planning, analysis, design, construction management, rehabilitation, and inspection.
As an expert in tunnel engineering, Lee has worked on several notable highway tunneling projects including Washington State Department of Transportation’s $3.1 billion Alaskan Way Tunnel, which will be one of the largest boring machine-driven tunnels in the world that meets current safety and seismic design standards; Caltrans’ $57.5 million Doyle Drive Replacement project, which constructed a detour roadway, drainage system, and permanent tunnel in the City of San Francisco; and the Port of Miami’s $1.3 billion Twin Tunnel project under Biscayne Bay. In addition to highway projects, Lee has also led numerous transit/railroad projects. He served as the Chief Geotechnical Engineer for Bay Area Rapid Transit’s (BART) $2.7 billion Extensions Program, and as the Principal-in-Charge and Technical Advisor for preliminary engineering and environmental studies for the 62-mile, $5.4 billion, Palmdale to Los Angeles section of the California High-Speed Rail project. Lee also has notable water project experience, including serving as Division Manager of the team that provided construction management services on the $260 million Calaveras Dam Replacement project for San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.
Lee is a registered Professional Engineer in multiple states and a Geotechnical Engineer in California. He holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Civil Engineering from University of Illinois, and a Master of Science in Mining and Earth Systems Engineering from Colorado School of Mines. Lee has authored numerous technical books and articles, in addition to assisting in the preparation of manuals, and conducting seminars and courses covering all aspects of tunneling and ground improvement.
