Lauren Ferrell Awarded WTS Member of the Year Award from the San Diego County Chapter

SAN DIEGO, California—At the WTS San Diego County Chapter annual scholarship and awards dinner, Lauren Ferrell was awarded the WTS Member of the Year Award for her outstanding contributions within the transportation field.

Lauren’s participation in WTS dates back over ten years ago while attending San Diego State University.  Lauren received the WTS Paulette Duve Memorial Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarships in 2006 and 2007. It was at the 2007 WTS Awards and Scholarship dinner where, as a scholarship winner, she was seated next to Kleinfelder’s CEO and was first introduced to the company. After graduating with her Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Lauren began her now nine year career with Kleinfelder.

Over the past nine years, Lauren has remained an active participant in the WTS San Diego County Chapter, including holding several leadership positions. For the past five years  she has served as the Scholarship Committee Chair, Annual Awards Dinner Chair, Vice President, and Chapter President for two years. As President, Lauren initiated the “Women in Transportation” series for WTS members. Each program in the series focused on a specific discipline, including construction, aviation and rail, and featured female professionals from the private and public sectors. She also established the first-ever construction site field trip for science club students from Gompers Preparatory Academy and members of the WTS San Diego State University Student Chapter, providing an interactive, hands-on program to spark students’ interest in careers within the transportation field. Students visited the I-805 North HOV/BRT construction site and meet with Caltrans and the contractor to learn more about highway bridge construction and design/build delivery methods.

In addition to Lauren’s involvement in WTS, she has made significant contributions to the transportation industry through her work on several noteworthy Southern California transportation projects including SANDAG’s Mid-Coast Corridor Transit Project and LOSSAN San Diego Double Track River Bridge; LA Metro’s Los Angeles Union Station Forecourt and Esplanade Improvements Project and Water Quality Compliance Environmental On-Call; Riverside County Transportation Commission’s (RCTC) Perris Valley Line commuter rail project; and compliance projects for Orange County Transportation Authority.
