MaineDOT Awards Kleinfelder Multi-Year Design and Inspection Contracts Totaling $10.1M
AUGUSTA, Maine – The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) has awarded Kleinfelder five General Consultant Agreements (GCA) on-call contracts, totaling 4-years and $10.1 million, to provide multi-disciplinary design and engineering services throughout the state.
Under the five GCA contracts, Kleinfelder will provide:
- Multimodal building design & architectural services
- Pedestrian/bicycle facilities design
- Bridge design
- Bridge Inspection (non-construction)
- Reconstruction and rehabilitation highway design
The projects are funded from different sources within MaineDOT. Specifically, Kleinfelder was awarded $1.0 million to support Maine’s bridge maintenance program, $2.6 million to support the bridge capital improvement program, $4.6 million to support the highway program, and $2.5 million to support the state’s multimodal program.
Kleinfelder has been working with MaineDOT since 2006, providing bridge design, special inspection, construction management, cultural and archeological surveys, and highway and road inspection services. In 2011, the company designed the Auburn, Maine 38-foot-long Royal River Bridge using Bridge-in-a-BackpackTM technology for MaineDOT, which uses lightweight carbon-fiber tube arches and fiberglass reinforced plastic decking to build the framework for sustainable, long-lasting bridges that can theoretically be transported to the site in a backpack, eliminating the need for heavy machinery. The Royal River Bridge won the ACEC’s coveted Grand Award in 2011.
“We are proud to continue our long relationship with MaineDOT, and do our part to help the agency meet today’s transportation challenges with efficiency, affordability, and innovation.” said Richard Wells, Kleinfelder’s transportation market manager.
