AIHA Highlights Jenny Meyer

April 20, 2021

The Rocky Mountain Section of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) featured Sr. Health & Safety Manager Jenny Meyer (Denver office) in their most recent newsletter, The Exposure.  In the Member’s Corner article, Jenny shares how she got into the field of industrial hygiene.

“I started working over three decades ago in an asbestos lab after raising kids for 13 years after college,” she explains. “My degree was in Biology, so I was familiar with microscopes and began by taking a NIOSH 582 course in Seattle and reading air samples for asbestos abatement. My industrial hygiene career grew from there.”

The Q&A style article goes on to cover Jenny’s areas of expertise, the type of work she does for clients, her advice for young industrial hygiene professionals, and her most gratifying career experience, which was completing asbestos and lead-based paint surveys at FAA housing around Alaska.  She explains that the FAA project gave her the opportunity to see Northway on the Yukon boarder, Fort Yukon above the Artic Circle, Umiat with a population of one, Barrow, Prudhoe Bay, and Cold Bay out on the Aleutian Islands.

“What an experience seeing Kodiak Brown Bears, caribou, Mount McKinley, and slaughter of pilot whales by Native Iñupiaq people of Barrow,” she comments. “I was able to fish in many areas and thoroughly enjoyed the long daylight hours to do activities after work and on weekends. Traveling by float plane and a small plane landing on ‘skis’ were highlights, too.”

Kudos to Jenny on representing Kleinfelder not only within the newsletter but also as a valuable member and leader of the Rocky Mountain Section of AIHA! To read the full article in the newsletter, click HERE.
