Kleinfelder Staff Rallied on the Beaches to Clean Our Coasts on International Coastal Cleanup Day
On September 21st, International Coastal Cleanup Day, staff from several Kleinfelder offices rallied on the beaches to help clean our coasts on International Coastal Cleanup Day!Jacksonville Office
Jacksonville office staff participated in cleanup efforts in Duval County and St. Johns County. Duval County reported an all-time high for participation with 1,075 volunteers and an estimated savings to the County and taxpayers of $66,974 in litter abatement costs. The most notable find by Kleinfelder staff was a toothbrush that had been in the ocean so long it was encrusted with barnacles. The most common item found was cigarette butts.
Los Angeles Office
Staff from the Los Angeles office collected the most waste of all groups that participated at the Venice Beach station, weighing in at 17lbs. of trash! Among the fun finds were a polka-dot bowtie, a pair of matching flip flops found at different ends of the beach, and a pair of jeans. They also found hundreds of cigarette butts, dozens of pieces of what was presumed to be fish netting, and microplastics/Styrofoam.
Stockton, Sacramento, Merced, and Fresno Offices
Staff from the Stockton, Sacramento, Merced, and Fresno offices teamed up to participate in San Joaquin County’s Coastal Cleanup day. The team joined about 100 other volunteers at the San Joaquin River-Buckley Cove site in Stockton, CA to clean up trash and debris along the levee.
Oakland Office
Staff from the Oakland office joined family, friends, and clients at the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline in Oakland to help eliminate litter from the bay and surrounding area.
