Mike Koester, CHMM, Joins Kleinfelder as Maryland-Virginia Area Manager

Kleinfelder is pleased to announce that Mike Koester, CHMM, has joined the firm as Vice President and Area Manager of its Maryland-Virginia operations. Koester brings over 20 years of leadership experience in environmental and engineering consulting, with a proven track record of driving strategic growth, scaling operations, and fostering long-term shareholder value. His “people first” leadership style and deep operational experience make him a powerful addition to our team.

On his new role, Koester commented, “I am excited for my future at Kleinfelder and I’m looking forward to working alongside its many talented professionals. The Maryland and Virginia area is poised for growth, building on its already proven success. I am eager to help amplify this great team and bring us all closer to meeting our strategic goals.”

With a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from the University of South Alabama and his Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) credential, Mike has successfully led large, multidisciplinary teams across diverse market sectors, including energy, industrial, commercial, municipal, and government. His career spans executive roles at EPS Group, Tetra Tech, ERM, and most recently as a fractional COO and advisor.

Koester is passionate about mentoring the next generation of professionals and making a meaningful impact through collaboration, operational excellence, and sustainable growth. Outside of work, he’s deeply committed to community service, supporting causes related to animal welfare, homelessness, veterans, domestic violence, and education. He currently serves as Board Treasurer for Black Lemonade and volunteers with Bridges Domestic Violence Center.
