Congratulations to Jim Devey on Caltrans Recognition

Jim Devey, Senior Program Manager
We are proud to recognize Jim Devey, Senior Program Manager in our Laguna Hills, CA office, who was recently commended by Caltrans District 7 Director Gloria Roberts for his outstanding work on the Vincent Thomas Bridge Deck Replacement Project. The award was presented during a Caltrans huddle meeting by Mohammed Shamol, Functional Manager for Caltrans Materials Engineering and Testing Services (METS) South.
Jim serves as a Lead Materials Engineering and Testing Services Representative on the project. His leadership and technical oversight have contributed to Caltrans’ confidence in the project team and the progress made to date. Receiving recognition directly from the District Director is a significant honor and reflects the strong partnership between Kleinfelder and Caltrans.
The Vincent Thomas Bridge, located on State Route 47, has been in service for 62 years. While structurally sound, the bridge deck has experienced rapid deterioration due to traffic loads, aging concrete, and the marine environment. Caltrans is advancing a $706 million CMGC project to replace the entire bridge deck with additional structural steel upgrades, new bridge lighting and seismic sensors. With one-third of all U.S. containerized shipping volume coming through the Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach, this will provide long-term functionality and safety for years to come.
Kleinfelder is supporting the effort under an on-call contract that provides quality assurance verification services for Caltrans’ Division of Engineering Services, METS, in Southern California. Jim’s role in guiding construction activities and ensuring adherence to project requirements has been instrumental to this high-profile undertaking.
