Kleinfelder Awarded Contract for Miramar Water Treatment Plant Residuals Redirection Project
The City of San Diego Public Utilities Department has awarded Kleinfelder the contract for the Miramar Water Treatment Plant residuals redirection project. This key infrastructure initiative supports ongoing water system enhancements, including the Pure Water Program.
With 34 MGD of pure water conveyed to Miramar Lake under the Pure Water Program in the near future, the treatment residuals, currently discharging into the lake, will need to be redirected to the existing sewer collection system. In addition, the treated filter backwash will be returned to the Headworks for reuse. Kleinfelder will provide this redirection design with innovative solutions for optimal treatment, minimizing the required footprint and enhancing operational efficiency.
“Kleinfelder is proud to continue supporting the City of San Diego in delivering safe, sustainable drinking water to more than 1.4 million residents,” said Kleinfelder Project Manager Art Garcia. “Our team remains committed to providing innovative, reliable solutions for critical water infrastructure projects.”
Kleinfelder’s approach to the project will focus on minimizing piping and utilities, lowering capital costs, improving accessibility, and reducing neighborhood impacts. In addition, a phased construction schedule will help limit disruption to residents in the surrounding Scripps Ranch community.
“Kleinfelder’s collaborative expertise enables us to deliver innovative solutions that balance efficiency, sustainability, and community impact,” said Kleinfelder Major Accounts Manager Simon Wong. “With decades of experience supporting City projects, our team is well-positioned to meet the technical and operational needs of this critical water infrastructure project.”
