Spotlight on National Safety Month

Kleinfelder proactively addresses key workplace hazards through partnership with the National Safety Council

Kleinfelder is committed to a culture where safety leads every decision. As a proud National Safety Council (NSC) firm, we are proactively addressing key workplace hazards. Our partnership with the NSC provides critical resources to protect staff and enhance programs — particularly in vital areas like ergonomics; preventing slips, trips, and falls on uneven terrain; and combating heat illness.

These specific risks demand focused attention:

Ergonomics

Proper ergonomic practices are crucial for preventing musculoskeletal injuries, whether in the office or at a field site. We leverage NSC expertise to promote best practices and provide resources that help our employees maintain their physical well-being.

Slips, Trips, and Falls on Uneven Terrain

Much of Kleinfelder’s work involves navigating challenging environments. The NSC offers invaluable guidance on identifying hazards and implementing preventative measures to reduce the risk of slips, trips, and falls — especially on unpredictable surfaces.

Heat Illness Prevention

With outdoor work being a significant component of our projects, and as temperatures rise, preventing heat illness is a top priority. Through our NSC membership, we access and share vital information on recognizing symptoms, implementing cooling strategies, and fostering a culture of vigilance against heat stress.

Matthew Pickard, Kleinfelder’s Health and Safety Director, emphasizes the value of this focused approach:

“Our partnership with the National Safety Council is instrumental in how we address prevalent industry risks. For instance, NSC resources help us develop targeted safety moments and enhance our training programs around critical issues like proper ergonomics, safe practices on uneven terrain to prevent falls, and strategies to avoid heat-related illnesses. Their benchmarking data also allows us to continuously improve our approach to these specific hazards, ensuring a safer environment for our team.”

By utilizing NSC’s extensive knowledge base, including materials for compelling safety moments and data for benchmarking, Kleinfelder is continually refining its strategies to protect our most valuable asset — our people. Our commitment as an NSC firm means we are always seeking better ways to ensure every employee returns home safe each day, having effectively managed risks like those associated with ergonomics, challenging terrains, and heat exposure.
