The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Pittsburgh Section has named Daniel Phillips, PE, the 2024 Young Civil Engineer of the Year. Daniel was honored with the award during the ASCE Banquet on February 22nd, recognizing his contributions to the field of civil engineering and his impact on the profession through leadership and mentorship.

With over a decade of experience in multidisciplinary projects, Daniel specializes in bridge engineering and has played a key role in advancing initiatives that enhance efficiency and drive development. His ability to integrate technology with practical engineering solutions has enabled him to solve complex challenges and exceed project goals. Through his leadership and technical expertise, Daniel has successfully collaborated with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality results.

Beyond his engineering expertise, Daniel is dedicated to mentorship and STEM outreach. He plays an active role in guiding future engineers as a practitioner advisor for the Youngstown State University (YSU) ASCE student chapter. Daniel’s commitment to professional growth extends to his leadership within ASCE. For nearly six years, he has been involved in shaping the ASCE Pittsburgh Section’s Younger Member Forum (YMF), serving in key roles such as YMF Secretary, YMF President, and currently as a Director (2022-2025). His commitment to supporting the next generation of engineers is evident in his ongoing contributions to professional development initiatives.

“Daniel’s dedication to engineering excellence and his passion for mentorship make him truly deserving of this recognition,” said Beau Truitt, Kleinfelder Principal Professional, Transportation Structures. “His contributions not only strengthen our team at Kleinfelder but also positively impact the broader engineering community. We are proud to see his efforts recognized with this well-earned award.”
