Major Milestone in San Diego Lead Service Line Management

Kleinfelder Helps San Diego Achieve Major Public Health Milestone in Lead Service Line Management

Kleinfelder’s San Diego team recently achieved a significant milestone in their project with the City of San Diego to inventory lead service lines citywide. Completed 10 months ahead of schedule, the initial inventory assessed over 300,000 service lines across the city—bringing San Diego into full regulatory compliance eight years before the EPA’s deadline set by the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI).

The completed inventory map, which can now be accessed by residents and businesses through the City of San Diego’s website, provides clear and accessible data on water service line materials throughout the city. To build this comprehensive resource, Kleinfelder used advanced data verification, predictive modeling, and machine learning, ensuring the city has a reliable long-term tool to plan safe, effective lead line replacements.

“This milestone is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our team,” said Trevor Shackelford, Kleinfelder Project Manager. “We not only met client expectations but delivered ahead of schedule, all while working to protect the health of millions of people. It’s truly a body of work to be proud of.”

With this accomplishment, Kleinfelder underscores its commitment to delivering high-quality, timely results on complex public health projects. Kleinfelder continues to set a high standard for public safety in water quality and service line management, empowering communities with reliable, accessible data to support safe, resilient infrastructure.
