Bois d’Arc Lake Water Supply Program Receives APWA Recognition
The Bois d’Arc Lake Water Supply Program in North Texas has received well-deserved recognition from the American Public Works Association (APWA). The project, which was named a 2023 Project of the Year by APWA Texas, continues to gain accolades for its approach to addressing water supply challenges in the region. Most recently, it was featured in the February 2024 issue of APWA Reporter, highlighting its pivotal role in advancing water use, reuse, and wastewater solutions.
The $1.6 billion Bois d’Arc Lake Water Supply Program, spearheaded by the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD), represents a significant undertaking aimed at providing a crucial water source for over 2 million residents across 80 rapidly expanding communities in North Texas. Kleinfelder, as a subconsultant to project designer Freese and Nichols, played a key role in ensuring the project’s success through comprehensive Quality Assurance (QA) for overall Construction Materials Testing services.
Kleinfelder’s QA materials testing services spanned across various facets of the project’s scope, including a two-mile-long, 90-foot-tall earthen dam, a new raw water pump station, approximately 50 miles of large-diameter water transmission pipeline, and the construction of a new water treatment plant in Leonard, TX. Additionally, 60 miles of raw and treated water transmission pipelines were laid to integrate into NTMWD’s existing distribution system. Kleinfelder’s approach to quality assurance ensured the highest standards of quality and durability, essential for the long-term sustainability of the water supply system.
Reflecting on Kleinfelder’s contribution to the project, Kleinfelder Project Manager CP Nawal stated, “The Bois d’Arc Lake Water Supply Program represents a significant achievement in addressing the water challenges facing North Texas. We are proud to have collaborated with the Freese and Nichols team on this project. Our field and mobile laboratory teams demonstrated exceptional responsiveness, playing a crucial role in maintaining the project’s construction schedule.”
