Raymond Hu Reflects on One Year at Kleinfelder

Raymond Hu is a staff professional in our Boston office and recently celebrated his one-year anniversary working at Kleinfelder.Headshot of Raymond Hu

“I’m impressed at all the things I’ve done. I definitely jumped into what I felt was an ‘accelerated’ position, where I spent a lot more time studying personally to keep up, but I got to engage myself in a number of different disciplines and activities.”

Raymond highlighted all the different things he was able to get involved with in just one year at Kleinfelder, and his list is impressive … take a look!

  1. Map creation using geographic information systems (GIS)
  2. Optimize pump station calculations/design
  3. Draw pumps, equalization tanks, site plans, drain crossings, and more with AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  4. Perform sound testing to observe the connectivity between pipes and structures
  5. Learn about strategies to determine lead pipes
  6. Write/develop specification drafts and get involved with pricing million+ dollar jobs
  7. Set up public outreach and education for cities/towns about stormwater best management practices
  8. Model approximately 5 miles of water pipeline for water age with multiple alternatives with WaterGEMS to determine optimal pipe size
  9. Participate in construction oversight, sampling oversight, site walk, and inspections for parks, dams, and cities/towns such as Somerville, Wayland, Westport, Boston, and Springfield
  10. Track hundreds of submittals across multiple disciplines (Architectural, Structural, Electrical, and Civil) for products, staffing, activities, equipment, etc. to incorporate into ongoing projects
  11. Remotely inspect pipeline through CCTV for flaws and make recommendations to remedy those issues
  12. Conduct research for flow meters, air release, and ball valves
  13. Re-learn how to map/plot points in the field with a GPS survey device

“There’s plenty more I’m sure I haven’t listed, but I came in hoping for design experience, and I am really thankful for the level of immersion Kleinfelder set me up for.”
