Boston Team Selected to Lead Flood Mitigation Planning and Feasibility at Long Wharf
The Boston Planning & Development Agency has selected Kleinfelder to lead the Flood Mitigation Planning and Feasibility at Long Wharf.
The Kleinfelder team will study flood resilience for the historic wharf – one of Boston’s premier waterfront tourist and recreation destinations and a gateway to the North End – to make it more resilient in higher tides.
Kleinfelder recently designed flood improvements for the MBTA Blue Line Aquarium Station on Long Wharf, and members of our subconsultant team – which includes Stoss Landscape Urbanism, The Foth Companies, One Architecture & Urbanism (ONE), PEER Consultants, P.C., Keville Enterprises, Inc., and CDW Consultants, Inc. – also bring recent experience working on the wharf.
“This will be a really challenging project given the historical nature of the site, its public exposure, and the complex structural conditions of the wharf itself,” said Kleinfelder Project Manager Andre Martecchini.
Kleinfelder’s Boston-based Climate Resiliency Team – including Andre, Kyle Johnson, Ariel Patterson, Artie Bonney, and Keng Liu – will be involved in the project. With more than 60 climate change vulnerability assessment, adaptation planning, and resilient design projects completed or underway, the team helps communities understand and manage their risks from increased flooding, heat, and other climate stressors.
