CMWorks Celebrates Completion of Procter R. Hug High School
With the ribbon cutting ceremony taking place in August, the Procter R. Hug High School in Sparks, NV, was completed just in time for about 2,200 students to start the 2022/2023 school year.
CMWorks, a Kleinfelder Company, provided owner’s representative project construction management services for the high school. Originally budgeted at $200 million, CMWorks delivered the project for $165 million, saving the client $35 million! The project was delivered using the CMAR delivery method.
The 295,000-square-foot school has two gyms, a 425-seat performing arts center, a media center, music room, library, tech/engineering labs, and an outdoor athletic stadium. Some unique aspects of the high school include an open-air learning area/platforms (Learning Stairs) with adjustable skylights, a culinary arts learning kitchen, and a complete ROTC facility.
CMWorks represented the owner’s interests and advised the owner during pre-construction, construction, and close-out of the project, including construction management, inspection, and project administration services. To ensure project milestones were met, CMWorks worked closely with the CMAR to develop a detailed baseline schedule that was effectively used as a planning tool for all project participants. CMWorks also lead the development of a communication matrix in close coordination with critical project stakeholders, which clearly defined lines of communication, roles, responsibilities, and accountability.
“This project was not only one of the largest public works projects in Washoe County, but one of the most successful,” said David Alexander, Kleinfelder area manager. “Our CMWorks team provided great value and contributed greatly to delivering an incredible project. We were part of an amazing partnership with Washoe County School District staff (owner), Clark & Sullivan (CMAR), Hershenow & Klippenstein (architects), Wood Rodgers (civil engineer), and other team members that was based on trust and accountability.”
Congratulations to the entire team on a successful project outcome!
