James Gingery Receives 2015 Shamsher Prakash Prize for Excellence in the Practice of Geotechnical Engineering

SAN DIEGO, California — Kleinfelder is pleased to announce that Dr. James “Jim” Gingery, PE, GE, has been awarded the 2015 Shamsher Prakash Prize for Excellence in the Practice of Geotechnical Engineering from the Shamsher Prakash Foundation.

The Shamsher Prakash Foundation was founded in 1989 by Dr. Shamsher Prakash—a professor emeritus from Missouri University of Science and Technology and an accomplished expert in geotechnical and earthquake engineering.

Each year the Prakash Foundation awards the prize to a recipient who demonstrates unique and noteworthy contributions to the field of geotechnical engineering and research. The winner is selected from an international field of applicants by a judging committee comprised of geotechnical experts from Canada, Japan, Ireland, Taiwan and United States.

“It is a thrill and an honor to be selected for the Prakash Prize,” said Dr. Gingery.  “I’m grateful to the Prakash Foundation and to the judging committee for this recognition.”

Dr. Gingery is a principal engineer and Senior Expert with a diverse background in geotechnical and earthquake engineering. In his role at Kleinfelder, he serves as a company-wide technical resource for advanced problem solving in geotechnical earthquake engineering and numerical modeling.

In addition to his consulting work, Dr. Gingery is active in research activities involving nonlinear site response and ground motions at liquefaction sites. He recently participated in the ‘Prenolin’ multi-year collaborative research program based in France that developed best practices and quantified epistemic uncertainties in nonlinear site response analysis.

Dr. Gingery earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from San Jose State University, a M.S. in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering from the University of California, San Diego.  He is a registered Civil and Geotechnical Engineer in the State of California.
