Applying industry expertise on this solar photovoltaic (PV) project, Kleinfelder reviewed the Small Generation Interconnection Agreement (SGIA), extracted the technical requirements established by Southern California Edison, and developed the protective relaying scheme for the projects.

A Variety of Agreements and Conditions

As each renewable project has many unique project parameters, including the interconnection agreement and design conditions, it can be challenging to identify, account for in design, and communicate such requirements.

Providing Assurance in Project Compliance

By having Kleinfelder’s experienced transmission and distribution engineers review the SGIA and develop the protection scheme for this project, the owner owner gained confidence in the project is compliance with utility requirements, while also obtaining technical data for cost-estimating purposes.

Project Results

Based on Kleinfelder’s review and evaluation of the SGIA for the project, a detailed single-line diagram was produced for the owner that depicted the required protective relaying scheme. With the delivered design drawings, the owner could also gather cost estimates for detailed engineering, equipment procurement, and construction.
