Kleinfelder has been retained to assist Cenovus Energy with project execution for a portfolio of projects at its flagship 120,000-bpd Foster Creek steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) facility. These projects are located throughout the plant and offsite areas, requiring all disciplines of engineering and supporting project services, such as estimating, scheduling, and project controls. These projects have been ongoing since 2010.
To execute the engineering cost effectively and to Cenovus’ standards, the detailed engineering is completed near the Cenovus home office in Calgary. However, the projects’ primary stakeholders are site-based operations personnel. These are brownfield projects in a mature operating facility, requiring site-based resources. The plant is a remote work site with limited access.
Kleinfelder integrated a team of project execution and support services staff into Cenovus’ project engineering team, significantly reducing Cenovus’ requirement to acquire and retain staff project personnel onsite and in Calgary. Kleinfelder is able to rotate site personnel through our Edmonton office, reducing commute costs, providing valuable exposure to a broad scope of work in an operating facility environment, enabling personal growth possibilities, and promoting long-term employment. All of this benefits our client through low staff turnover and consistent high productivity.
Mobilizing both onsite and remote engineering staff, Kleinfelder delivers cost-effective project execution to significantly reduce our client’s cost across its portfolio of projects. Furthermore, our low staff turnover and successful integration with the client’s engineering team yields consistent productivity to minimize project risk.
