Kleinfelder served as the prime consultant for the City of Corona’s Auto Center Drive Grade Separation project, providing public outreach, construction management, and inspection services. The project included construction of a four-lane overcrossing at Auto Center Drive/BNSF Railroad tracks, increasing public safety, improving vehicle circulation and train operations, and facilitating future rail expansion. Ultimately, the project decreases the delays caused by freight trains traveling through the West Corona Metrolink Station.
This high-profile project included temporary roadway detours, a temporary railroad grade crossing, temporary driveways, use of business properties, and intermittent water shut-offs. Numerous businesses located within or adjacent to the construction area that were affected by these construction activities, and other challenges included addressing the important issues and concerns raised by the affected businesses, allowing 88 trains to pass through the construction zone each day, and helping the City of Corona maintain a positive public perception of the project.
Kleinfelder’s public relations team executed a strategic public outreach plan developed by the team specifically for this project. The approach included conducting pre-construction research to ascertain and create a database of all businesses within the project footprint, one-on-one briefings with major stakeholders, project branding, canvassing project factsheets and construction alerts, and using social media to connect with and deliver valuable information to the surrounding community.
Kleinfelder’s innovative and proactive construction management efforts and extensive public outreach program that engaged the community, addressed concerns, and provided valuable project news and information contributed to a savings of $1.3 million for the City of Corona and reduced the contract time by two months.
