16 kV Overhead Distribution Line

  • 16 kV Overhead Distribution Line

Kleinfelder helped analyze a river crossing where an existing double circuit 16 kV overhead distribution line needed to be moved to accommodate a wider bridge.

Congested Project Site

The area impacted by this project is within a city and is very congested. There is limited flexibility with the location of new poles for the line relocation, and there are multiple existing overhead and underground utilities that must be avoided.

Evaluating Existing Infrastructure

Leveraging our transmission and distribution expertise, including previous experience with river crossings, we developed a PLS-CADD model of the span to evaluate clearances to the bridge structures, as well as an existing overhead power line. Continuous coordination with the client ensured that any concerns about clearances,  interferences with other utilities, and other impacts of pole locations were discussed and resolved in a timely manner.

Project Results

Kleinfelder successfully completed the initial analysis of the double-circuit crossing.  Due to civil constraints and changes to the circuit interface on both ends of the bridge, the line will be moved to the other side of the bridge, and the span will be re-analyzed.  Kleinfelder will then prepare and issue steel pole performance drawings to support procurement of the two poles and assist with periodic construction support through project completion.
