In the article Update on PFAS and Massachusetts Drinking Water, Kirsten discusses how emerging contaminants of concern, such as per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS), can affect the general public, and how MassDEP is working to implement guidelines and regulations to reduce human exposure to PFAS through drinking water. Recently, (after the article went to press), MassDEP announced its intention to begin the process of establishing a drinking water maximum contaminant level (MCL) for certain PFAS. The State’s website provides additional information regarding MassDEP’s statement. (January 2019)

Stacie’s article, Paving Your Way to Success, discusses the seven primary causes of asphalt distress and stresses the importance of having an assessment and maintenance plan for parking lots in order to preserve the property’s aesthetics, ensure customer and tenant safety, and extend the service life of the pavement. Dr. Bradley Erskine’s paper, Characterization of asbestiform glaucophane-winchite in the Franciscan Complex blueschist, northern Diablo Range, California, was recently published in the Journal of Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology. The paper summarizes the results of a source-rock characterization of asbestiform amphibole in Franciscan Complex blueschists of northern California. (December 2018)
