Victoria (Tori) Tinoco – Recognized for Efficient Development and Implementation of Safety Procedures on a Gas Transmission Project

Tori, a staff engineer in our Fresno, CA office, was the field lead for a five-day field investigation for a high-profile gas transmission project. She took great care in developing and implementing the safety plan for the project and was efficient and detailed in her delivery of the tailboard. The onsite client representative was very impressed, stating in an email: "…I would like to formally commend Kleinfelder and Taber personnel for their safety and performance on site. Upon my arrival to the kick-off meeting, Victoria gave a fantastic speech discussing scope of work, safety hazards, environmental concerns, proper response protocol, and proper reporting methods. She was very detailed and obviously very prepared… Proper preparations were made for all work to be performed efficiently, correctly, & safely…Execution of the work was also conducted well…I was part of another project performing geotechnical work less than two weeks ago and, although the work was performed adequately by a different contractor, it has been a much more organized, efficient, and all around pleasurable experience to have been a part of this geotechnical work with this group. Please keep up the good work!"

Mike Holon – Recognized for Safety Related to Contractor Fall Protection

While working as a Construction Oversight Engineer on a local utility client’s facility during a remediation project, Mike Holon, from our Hamilton, NJ office, noticed that workers on an adjacent multi-story building roof (doing work unrelated to the remediation project) did not have proper fall protection or setbacks. Recognizing this as an unsafe condition, Mike took action and notified his client representative for the remediation project, who, in turn, made internal notifications that immediately stopped work and caused corrective actions to be implemented to prevent a fall from height. Mike was recognized with positive client feedback for his safety catch regarding contractor fall protection, even though it was outside of his direct span of control.

Jeremy Horsley – Recognized for Going Above and Beyond to Promote Safe Work Sites and Practices

“All of us who have worked with Jeremy in any capacity over the years know that he walks, talks, and breathes the core value of safety,” said Josh Patterson, Program Manager.  As a former client of Kleinfelder, and even more so now, Josh found it reassuring to show up on a safe and secure Kleinfelder work site with Jeremy, an environmental scientist in our Jacksonville, FL office, at the helm, knowing that all risks and hazards have been thought through and properly mitigated or eliminated. Jeremy consistently goes above and beyond to promote safe work practices.  He educates coworkers, clients, and subcontractors in “worst case scenario” planning; takes time out to show the office how to properly inspect a vehicle; walks subconsultants/subcontractors through Health and Safety Plans (HASP); and regularly checks in with client safety managers to compare notes.  “I think I speak for everyone in our office and region in saying that Jeremy is a rock, a big brother, a shepherd (insert your analogy of choice) who looks out for all of us and makes sure we all remember the most important thing about going to work is returning home from work happy and healthy,” said Josh.
