EDMONTON, Canada and SAN DIEGO, California — Kleinfelder announced today that it has successfully acquired Hood Engineering & Technical Services (aka Hood Group), an Alberta-based, privately-owned organization providing engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services to clients primarily in oil and gas, petrochemical and manufacturing industries. The transaction closed on 8 July 2014.
The combination of Kleinfelder and Hood Group brings together complementary strengths to create a unique, full-service engineering, architecture, and environmental-consulting firm with extensive EPCM capabilities.
“Hood Group’s extensive EPCM services, combined with a track record of project success and client-centric culture, provides Kleinfelder a unique opportunity to expand our market penetration in Canada,” says Bill Siegel, Kleinfelder’s President and CEO. “We continually strive to grow our global support services for a variety of oil and gas, petrochemical and manufacturing clients, and our acquisition of Hood Group is an important factor for helping us meet that goal in Canada. I have no doubt that this acquisition will transform our company into a leading provider of engineering, architecture, and environmental-consulting services throughout Canada.”
Founded in 1992 by Don Quist, Hood Group provides effective and project-appropriate EPCM solutions combined with a level of engagement and customer focus that is unique in the industry. Along with these offerings, the company has a project execution philosophy focused on realizing budget and quality goals safely and on schedule.
“Kleinfelder has a rich, 53-year history of providing excellent engineering, architecture, and environmental-consulting services. That history, combined with our EPCM expertise and client relationships, will differentiate us in the Canadian oil and gas, petrochemical and manufacturing markets,” says Quist, who will assist in the integration while leading Canadian client and project pursuits. “We see a great fit with Kleinfelder, because our culture and services will easily assimilate into the larger company, providing both our clients and employees the ability to leverage the benefits of a larger geographic footprint and more robust disciplinary capabilities.”
Hood Group – named to the Best 50 Small to Medium Sized Canadian Employers list three years in a row -- employs 130 professionals from its offices in Calgary, Edmonton and Foster Creek. The entirety of Hood Group’s staff are now Kleinfelder employees and will continue to work at their existing offices as part of Kleinfelder Canada, Inc.
Steve Clifford, the President of Hood Engineering adds, “This is a very exciting time for all of us at Hood Engineering. Joining with Kleinfelder affords us all immense opportunities. We are embarking on a journey with an industry leader whose aligned values recognize and embrace the passion, talent and expertise of everyone at Hood.”
