Project Description:Kleinfelder environmental planning staff has been providing natural resource, cultural, NEPA and compliance program support services at Camp Roberts and Camp San Luis Obispo.
Scope of Services NATURAL RESOURCE SERVICES — Kleinfelder Environmental staff has been providing natural resource, cultural, NEPA and compliance program support services at Camp Roberts and Camp San Luis Obispo. Work conducted includes focused biological surveys for the San Joaquin kit fox (SJKF), the California red-legged frog (CRLF), bat clearance, a habitat assessment for California tiger salamander (CTS), terrestrial invertebrate and an update of the facilities wetland delineation. Quantitative ecological data were collected at Camp Roberts by staff on the habitat suitability for reptiles, amphibians, and small mammals, including the range and distribution of Monterey dusky-footed woodrat (Neotoma fuscipes luciana), a state and federal species of special concern. Data were compiled through trapping surveys at numerous sites on the base. Staff identified areas as being occupied by one or more of three subspecies of dusky-footed woodrat based on habitat and presence of woodrat droppings. Data collection also included small mammal trapping and nocturnal wildlife and general herpetological surveys to update observed faunal species lists. Key issues include: habitat assessments, wetland delineations, database management, GIS/CADD, graphics, public outreach and regulatory compliance/permitting.
CULTURAL RESOURCE SERVICES — For cultural resource program support, duties include: Section 106 cultural and historic resource surveys, regulatory coordination and permitting, oral histories, database management, representing the CA-ARNG at cultural resource conferences, public outreach via several methods including web-based publishing. Key facilities include Camp Roberts and Camp San Luis Obispo. In support of Cultural Resource Program Management, Kleinfelder is working as an extension of the California Army National Guard’s staff, providing quality control/assurance as well as mentoring with the intent of growing a sustainable staff. This will result in reducing overall program costs and expand the Guard’s overall capabilities. Kleinfelder's Role Kleinfelder was the lead consultant for overall environmental planning services.
