Project Description:

In order to support Barrick’s Goldstrike property located north of Carlin, Nevada, construction of a new power plant is underway. The project will include construction of a 115 mg, natural gas-fired, reciprocating engine, simple cycle facility. Elements include four Chiller Towers, Exhaust Stacks, three Step Transformers, two Swithchyard Dead End Structures, Four Engine Banks and associated improvements. This facility will be a dry operation.

Kleinfelder is the Geotechnical Engineer-of-Record for this project. Our scope of services included field exploration, laboratory testing and engineering analysis. Twenty-one borings were advanced to depths of approximately 36 feet, two testing pits were excavated for percolation testing as well as four resistivity surveys. Site borings were drilled with a truck-mounted CME55 drill rig using either hollow stem augers or mud rotary drilling techniques.

Our report contains recommendations for site preparation, earthwork, foundations, retaining structures, drainage pavement sections and steel and concrete reactivity.
