Poway Unified School District Poway, CA
Project Description:Constructed in the 1920s as the City of Poway's first elementary school, Midland Elementary was scheduled for demolition and total replacement. As the Poway Unified School District's On-call environmental services and Hazmat Services contractor, Kleinfelder performed a Phase I ESA, and HAZMAT material surveys of the campus. Kleinfelder also performed a PEA on the campus due to a history of USTs on site, oil-sprayed road and parking lot areas, a septic leachfield, and the known application of hazardous pesticides for subterranean termite control beneath the older classroom buildings. The PEA concluded that soils beneath some of the buildings had to be removed as waste, some possibly RCRA waste from Dieldrin and Chlordane. This Removal Action Project is the execution of the recommendations made in the Midland Elementary School PEA report and the Removal Action Work Plan.
