Stacie Steel was one of nine engineers interviewed in the October/November issue of “Diversity/Careers in Engineering & Information Technology”. She was highlighted as an example of the engineering talent and diversity that exists in the transportation industry and at Kleinfelder. Steel is a project manager for Kleinfelder pavement group and located in the Denver office. She specializes in asphalt and concrete materials used in highways and parking lots. She’s been with Kleinfelder for seven years, starting with the company while a student at the University of Washington. Kleinfelder was highlighted by Steel as she described our testing services being like quality control for contractors or quality assurance for project owners. “It’s an insurance policy for both sides,” she says. “Contractors want to make sure they have documentation that they placed quality materials, and the owners want to be sure they have the finished product they are paying for.” She likes the work she’s been doing with sustainable materials. She originally wanted to be an environmental engineer. “But when I first came to Kleinfelder the opening was in construction.
