A long-standing client, the Town of Bradford redesigned 1,600 linear feet of East Main Street to include new sidewalks and bike lanes along both sides of the road and correct drainage deficiencies. The Town also contracted with Kleinfelder to assist with environmental policy compliance.

Maintaining the Integrity of Historic Properties

The proposed roadway reconstruction is located within a cohesive community with National Register-eligible properties. The challenge included meeting the project’s transportation purpose and maintaining the character and integrity of the historic properties along East Main Street, while keeping municipal costs down.

Staying Within Budget

After a file review at the State Historic Preservation Office, Kleinfelder successfully advocated against executing a lengthy and expensive inventory of resources in the project area because the sensitive design of the project, using granite curbing and staying within the right of way, would not impact any resources. This ensured the client was meeting regulatory compliance, preserving historic resources, and staying within budget.

Project Results

Kleinfelder supplied the client with an architectural survey, National Register-eligibility assessment, and effect determination, along with completing National Environmental Policy Act compliance documents. This information supported the Town in developing the project, while protecting its historic resources.
